Swimmer Code of Conduct
As a proud Sunset Ridge Barracuda Swimmer, I will:
- Be on time for practice and meets.
- Come to practice and meets prepared. Have your goggles, have an extra pair of goggles. Have your team cap. Hair up for swimmers with long hair.
- Replace horseplay with hard work giving FULL attention and cooperation to the coaches.
- Make every practice, meet participation, and activity an opportunity to learn.
- Do your personal best in any drill or exercise.
- Exercise basic practice principles - no talking while coach is talking, keep hands to yourself, NO foul language or gestures, ready and listening for coaches’ instructions. Questions or clarifications should be asked politely and respectfully. Disrespect or failure to obey instructions will not be tolerated from any swimmer.
- Respect your fellow swimmers.
- Don’t be a bully - no aggressive play.
- Do your best through difficult practices - coaches see hard work.
- Remain in practice and at swim meets for the entire time. Relay teams need ALL members to swim.
- Report misconduct by other swimmers to coaches/Board members immediately (do not allow someone else’s misbehavior be your problem - don’t be bullied).
- Report any injuries immediately to coaches.
- Swimmers are expected to remember during swim meets, team activities, and in public they are representing Sunset Ridge Barracudas swim team. Represent with excellence, respect, team spirit, good sportsmanship, and politeness.
- Meet Protocol - be on time and in place, ready to swim your events. Use positive encouraging language to both teams, win gratefully, lose graciously, stay in your designated team area, respect the facilities.
- Swimmers are required to wear Barracuda Team suit at all swim meets. If the swimmer wears a cap, the team cap is required as per TSA guidelines.
- Vandalism will not be tolerated for facilities (home or away) and team gear. Respond to any directions regarding the care of swim gear and facilities used.
- Theft of any kind will not be tolerated - turn in any “found” items, especially goggles.
- There shall be no drinking of alcohol or use of tobacco products or illegal drugs.
- Swimmers are encouraged to use good judgement when using any social media outlet. Negative and derogatory comments or pictures will not be tolerated.
Parent Code of Conduct
As a proud Sunset Ridge Barracudas Swim Team Parent, I will:
- Support my swimmer(s) with positive encouragement at all times
- Respect and adhere to the ideals, policies, and rules determined by the Tarheel Swimming Association (TSA) and the Sunset Ridge Barracudas, LLC.
- Set the right example for our children by showing respect and common courtesies at all times to the team members, coaches, competitors, officials, and parents.
- Maintain self-control at all times.
- No foul language, foul gestures, alcoholic beverages, or illegal substances.
- Smoking and vaping are not permitted at meets as per TSA rules.
- Respect the facilities, either home or away, at which my swimmer(s) is privileged to swim.
- Show respect for the decisions, judgement, and authority of the coaches, meet officials, and TSA representatives.
- Refrain from parent coaching. Let the coaches do their job and support your swimmer(s) with unconditional support for doing their best. Good work ethics in practice should lead to improved swimming skills. If not, private lessons are great options and all our coaches offer them.
- Respect the 24-hour rule when dealing with issues or concerns in respect to meet heat placements, the meet, or team strategy during the meet.
- NEVER approach or interrupt an official or a coach at a meet with a complaint. If a problem arises, find your Board President or your Meet Manager to see if something can be done or wait until the next day if it is a problem that can wait.
- Report Issues, complaints, or problems to President, Meet Manager, or any other Board member. Please report any swimmer complaints about another swimmer’s conduct. Discern if it was a minor one-time offense or if it is an ongoing problem that needs to be stopped. Everyone deserves to feel safe at practice and at meets. Try to come up with a suggestion for the solution as well. We are all volunteers!
- Swimmers - swim / Coaches - Coach / Officials - Officiate / Parents - Parent. Coaches handle swimmers. The Board handles parents. Coaches can NOT do both so let them do what they do best by dealing with the swimmers.
- Call or meet with coaches during normal business hours before or after practices/ meets to discuss issues. Please do not interrupt coaches during practices. All coaches have provided their contact information for your use.
- Keep family contact information updated. Make sure your SMS cell phone information and correct emails are loaded into Team Unify. Set your email to accept Team Unify emails so they do not get lost in “Spam”.
- Be Timely. Get your swimmers to practices and meets on time with required equipment. Arrive at meets in time for volunteer and/or swimmer check in, stretching, and warmups.
- Don’t be a NO SHOW. “Decline” your attendance if you are missing a meet and do this BEFORE the deadline. Our Team Unify system will send you a notice for attendance for all meets. Your job is to decline if you are going to be absent. If you do NOT declare attendance, we will assume you are NOT swimming. Please text a Coach or Meet Manager if something unexpected arises.
- Agree to full Cooperation with Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer Commitments. Sign up for at least the minimum requirements before the season begins, find your own replacement if something unavoidable comes up, then sign up for another position if someone took yours as an extra. Don’t forget your responsibilities to the meets and be on time and in place by required time so we know you are there and ready to work.
- Use good judgement when using any social media outlet. Negative or derogatory comments or pictures will not be tolerated.
- Be patient with weather related issues especially for swim meets. No one can predict weather precisely and we all have to show up regardless of what’s going on in your area and wait patiently. We follow TSA guidelines for meets - everyone is expected to attend and stay for the duration of the process.
Code of Conduct Violations
In the event of a code of conduct violation, the coaches and board members will complete a thorough investigation and impose appropriate penalties as needed. During the investigation all parties will be notified that an investigation is taking place.
When imposing disciplinary penalties, the board will consider the following:
- The athlete's age.
- The nature of the offense and the circumstances that led to the offense.
- The athlete's prior disciplinary record.
- Information from coaches, parents, athletes, volunteers and/or others, as appropriate.
- Other mitigating and extenuating circumstances.
After a decision has been reached a meeting with athletes and parents shall take place with the coach and a TSA Rep. If the coach cannot be present, another board member will fill in.
